Ness or Nakba?
Ariel University Center (AUC)
Samaria
Sunday, May 25, 2008
3:00 p.m.
20367 Lander Dr., Woodland Hills, CA 91364 ● (818)704-0523
While Israel’s left-wing Education Minister, Yuli Tamir, would have it (and all who live in the surrounding area) removed, Ariel University Center (AUC) remains the fastest-growing higher education institution in Israel, and the only one in the country that requires every student, regardles of background or orientation, to take one course each semester on the Land of Israel and the Israeli flag must be displayed in every classroom, laboratory and auditorium on campus.
Ariel University Center of Samaria is known as Israel's most-popular and fastest-growing higher educatoinal institution, yet its recent advance in status from a college to a university center has met with resistance from Israel's left and the country's established and better-known universities. Some say the advance has been well-earned and long in coming, while others say its an impediment to regional peace.
Located in the city of Ariel, a bustling town of 17,000 people in the Samarian hills, the 26-year-old University Center continues to grow and diversify to meet the new challenges of a burgeoning society with rapidly changing needs. It currently boasts 8,500 students from all over the country, including 70% coming from the greater Tel Aviv area and central Israel.
Come hear Avery Ellisman, Head of US-based efforts to raise support for Ariel University Center (AUC), and Prof. Zvi Shiller, Head of AUC's Dept. of Mechatronics, provide background and details on how what was once a small adult-education center managed to become the place for Israel's young to seek and gain higher education.
You won't want to miss hearing these representatives of AUC describe how their institution has succeeded in positioning itself as the next formal research university in Israel, and confirm that, despite political opposition to their existence,...
Zionism is alive and well in Ariel.
Please plan to attend and forward this invitation to all on your list.
